What is Backburner?
Autodesk® Backburner™ is a background rendering network system that allows animation scenes to be rendered by many computers working collectively on the same network. Meet Backburner, a network-rendering manager for Autodesk programs such as Maya, 3ds Max, and Toxik.
Autodesk Backburner is a utility application for Autodesk 3ds Max 2013, Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2013 and other Autodesk programs. It performs compiling, rendering and other input-output processes on one or several machines while Autodesk programs are in use. To be able to do this, chunks of data from individual programs are sent to various render nodes on the same or different machines simultaneously. This makes rendering times faster, and space in the processor is freed for other tasks.
Furthermore, Inputs from multiple programs running at the same time can create output. For example, a video file rendered with the use of Flame is then sent to Cleaner for mastering and encoding. In addition, render farms, big groups of machines that focus on the same rendering tasks to process large files in shorter times, can be created and managed with the Autodesk Backburner. This program also comes with a support feature for the Unicode version of 3DS Max 13, and this makes it possible for the user to use ASCII characters for Job names or Output Paths. This is not possible with an older version of 3ds Max Design. Other compatible programs with the Autodesk Backburner include Burn, Smoke, Inferno, Flint, Flare, Flame, Lustre, 3dStudioMax, Maya, Wiretap Central, Cleaner and Backdraft Conform.
